Patichari: The demand for yellow-fleshed watermelon varieties such as "Yellow Melon," "Yellow Flesh Black Diamond," "Desert King," and "Yellow Doll" has surged across Tripura. These watermelons are primarily cultivated in Patichari Alutala, Karbook RD Block, Gomati district.

The cultivation is managed by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Karbook Cluster, providing a source of income for many local farmers. Wholesale buyers purchase the melons in bulk and distribute them to different parts of the state, ensuring a steady supply in the market.

Apart from wholesale trade, SHG members also sell these watermelons by the roadside, boosting their family income. Many women are engaged in direct sales, supporting their households financially. The watermelons are sold at a price of ₹55 to ₹60 per kilogram, attracting customers due to their unique taste and high quality.
With increasing demand, farmers are hopeful for better profits, making yellow watermelon cultivation a promising agricultural activity in Tripura.
