Amid the growing election campaign, an interesting and humorous question is now being discussed among local people: if every political leader is promising Chairman posts to supporters, who will actually remain after the election?

According to the common understanding, each Village Committee can have one Chairman, while the political promises being heard in the area appear to have created an impression that almost everyone could become a Chairman.

The situation has therefore become a matter of light-hearted discussion in Karbook, with people joking that the election has not even taken place yet, but the number of “Chairmen” seems to be increasing every day! 😄

The final outcome, however, will depend on the elected representatives and the process followed after the VC elections.

BREAKING NEWS: Political Activity Intensifies in Karbook

Karbook, Tripura: Political activity has reportedly intensified in Karbook, with around 10 families comprising 25 voters from Narendra Para reportedly joining the BJP under the leadership of Angju Tripura and Bijoy Tripura.

Similarly, around 20 families comprising 52 voters from Kolmohan Para are reported to have joined the BJP under the leadership of Bishwa Manik Tripura. Surender Motha and other local supporters were reportedly present during the development.

According to local sources, some of those who joined said they continue to respect and support Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, but expressed their inability to support the upcoming BAC Chairman MLA Sanjoy Manik Tripura 

Danti Mohan Tripura, Youth President, was also reportedly present on the occasion.

The development has reportedly become a topic of discussion in local political circles. However, the reported numbers of families and voters, as well as the formal joining of the BJP, should be confirmed through official statements from the concerned leaders or party.

Sikkim: Landslide Partially Blocks Teesta and Chyakoong Rivers in Mangan; Officials On High Alert

MANGAN, SIKKIM (September 6) — A massive landslide overnight in North Sikkim’s Mangan district has partially obstructed the flow of the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers, prompting authorities to place downstream settlements on high alert.

The hill collapse occurred during the intervening night of September 5 and 6 along a newly cut section of the Naga–Tosa Road in the Naga Forest area, opposite the Theng Tunnel in the Chungthang subdivision. Debris slid directly into the confluence of the two rivers, temporarily obstructing water movement and causing partial damming.

Ground Situation & Operational Status

According to officials from the Mangan District Administration and local police, both rivers continue to maintain a partial flow through the debris field.

Fatalities & Casualties: No loss of life or injuries has been reported. Property damage is currently being evaluated.

River Flow: Water levels at the Sankalang and Phidang monitoring outposts remain near normal levels, though the river water has turned noticeably muddy.

Precautionary Measures: The Police Control Room has alerted low-lying downstream settlements. Residents have been advised to stay away from the riverbanks and avoid unnecessary travel through vulnerable areas.

Personnel from the Chungthang and Theng police outposts are conducting continuous ground monitoring near the slide zone. Meanwhile, the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) has released Emergency Control Room helplines for public assistance:

MHA Delegation Likely to Visit Tripura Next Week to Review Tripartite Agreement

Agartala, September 6, 2026: The Centre is preparing to step up efforts for the implementation of the Tripartite Agreement signed to address long-pending issues concerning the indigenous people of Tripura. A high-level delegation of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is expected to visit the state next week for discussions with key stakeholders.

The proposed visit follows a recent meeting involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma. The meeting reportedly focused on accelerating the implementation of commitments made under the agreement.

During its visit, the MHA team is expected to meet representatives of the Tripura government, TIPRA Motha and other concerned stakeholders. The discussions are likely to examine the progress of various commitments and identify issues that require immediate intervention.

The Tripartite Agreement was signed in March 2024 between the Centre, the Tripura government and TIPRA Motha. It seeks to address political, economic, social, cultural and constitutional concerns related to the indigenous population of the state.

The upcoming consultations are expected to focus on developing a time-bound roadmap so that pending commitments can move towards concrete implementation.

BIG BREAKING: BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT Set for Joint Contest in Tripura Village Committee Polls

Agartala, September 5, 2026: In a major political development ahead of the Tripura Village Committee elections, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has indicated that the BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT will contest the upcoming Village Committee elections together.

Speaking after returning to Tripura from New Delhi, where he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah along with Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, Saha said the three parties would work together in the September 28 Village Committee elections.

The development comes shortly after the high-level meeting in New Delhi, which focused on the upcoming elections as well as several longstanding issues concerning Tripura's indigenous population. The meeting between Shah, Saha and Pradyot was also attended by BJP Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra.

One of the most important issues discussed was the implementation of the Tripartite Accord, particularly matters related to the land rights of indigenous tribal people.

According to Saha, work on the land-rights issue is expected to move forward soon after the Village Committee elections. The implementation of the agreement has been a major demand of Tipra Motha and has remained central to negotiations over an electoral understanding with the BJP.

The announcement marks a significant shift in the political equation in Tripura's tribal areas. Tipra Motha had earlier maintained that it would not enter into an electoral understanding without concrete progress on the Tripartite Accord.

The Village Committee elections are scheduled for September 28, covering 587 Village Committees, with counting scheduled for October 5. The elections are being held after a gap of nearly 10 years.

The BJP had reportedly delayed finalising its candidates while alliance discussions with Tipra Motha were underway, making the outcome of the Delhi meeting particularly significant.

The BJP-Tipra Motha-IPFT understanding, if implemented as announced, could significantly reshape the electoral contest across Tripura's tribal areas and will be closely watched ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

GSLV-F17 Mission: ISRO Set to Launch Advanced EOS-05 Earth Observation Satellite

Sriharikota: India’s space programme is set for another significant mission as the GSLV-F17 rocket prepares to carry the advanced EOS-05 Earth observation satellite into space.

The mission will be launched from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. GSLV-F17 will be the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, marking another important step in the country’s satellite-launch capabilities.

The rocket is equipped with a 4-metre-diameter ogive composite payload fairing, which will protect the spacecraft during the initial phase of its journey.

The main payload, EOS-05, is a next-generation Earth observation spacecraft featuring hyperspectral imaging technology. The satellite is designed to capture detailed information about Earth from a geosynchronous orbit.

The mission is particularly notable because EOS-05 is described as India’s first imaging satellite to operate from a geosynchronous orbit. Its advanced imaging capabilities are expected to enhance India’s ability to observe and study the Earth using space-based technology.

The GSLV-F17 mission represents another important achievement in India’s growing space capabilities and demonstrates continued progress in the development of advanced launch vehicles and Earth-observation satellites.

Mega Tipra Motha Rally in Bakma as Candidates File Nominations for Village Council Elections

Bakma, Killa RD Block, September 3, 2026: A large-scale Tipra Motha supporters’ rally was organised at Bakma under Killa RD Block on Thursday evening as the party’s candidates submitted their nomination papers for the upcoming Village Council elections scheduled to be held on September 28.

Hundreds of supporters gathered for the rally, with the turnout estimated at around 1,000 Tipra Motha supporters. The rally began with party supporters accompanying the candidates to the nomination centre, where the candidates formally submitted their nomination papers.

Former CEM and current MDC Shri Purna Chandra Jamatia also participated in the rally and was present during the nomination filing programme. His presence added significance to the event, with party supporters gathering in large numbers around the nomination procession.

The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from local supporters, who raised party slogans and expressed their support for the candidates contesting the Village Council polls.

With the election scheduled for September 28, political activities have intensified across the state. Various parties and candidates are stepping up their organisational programmes and nomination filing ahead of the crucial local-level election.

Tipra Motha Holds Organisational Meetings Ahead of Village Council Elections

Teliamura, Tripura: With the Village Council elections approaching, the Tipra Motha Party has stepped up its organisational activities across the Teliamura subdivision. The party is working to strengthen its organisation and prepare its strategy for the upcoming elections.

On Tuesday, MDC of the 11 Maharani constituency, Utpal Debbarma, held separate organisational meetings with party leaders and workers across three blocks under the Teliamura subdivision.

Party workers and leaders from the Mungiakami, Teliamura and Kalyanpur block areas participated in the meetings.

According to party sources, discussions focused on the organisational position of Tipra Motha, preparations for the upcoming Village Council elections and the party's future electoral strategy.

The meetings also emphasised strengthening coordination among party workers and further consolidating the organisation at the grassroots level ahead of the elections.

Speaking about the meetings, MDC Utpal Debbarma said the discussions mainly focused on the strategy and approach to be adopted by the party for the upcoming Village Council elections. He also stressed the need for party workers to remain united and work together to strengthen the organisation.

Two Convicted in 79-Kg Ganja Smuggling Case, Sentenced to 10 Years in Jail

Khowai, Tripura: A Khowai district court has sentenced two accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting them in a ganja smuggling case involving the recovery of 79 kg of cannabis.

The case dates back to July 9, 2021, when police conducted a search at the Hawaibari naka point under Teliamura Police Station. During the vehicle search, a total of 79 kg of ganja was recovered.

The vehicle driver, Partha Debnath, and co-driver Bijesh Debbarma were arrested in connection with the case.

The matter was subsequently heard before Special Judge Sharmistha Mukherjee at the Khowai District Court. During the lengthy trial, the court examined a total of 12 witnesses and reviewed the evidence and documents presented in the case.

After considering the testimonies and other evidence, the court found both accused guilty.

The court then sentenced Partha Debnath and Bijesh Debbarma to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of them.

The verdict is being viewed by the concerned authorities as a strong message against drug trafficking and the illegal transportation of cannabis.
