Agartala, October 7, 2026: In a significant development in Tripura’s political landscape, Pradyot Bikram Manikya has announced that he is stepping away from active politics, saying he now wants to prioritise his health, family and personal well-being after years of public service.
In a letter addressed to the people of Tripura on October 6, Pradyot described the decision as a deeply personal one taken after considerable thought and reflection. He made it clear that his decision was not a temporary withdrawal or a move taken in anger.
According to the letter, Pradyot said his political journey had always been driven by the goal of protecting the rights, dignity and constitutional interests of Tripura’s indigenous people. He recalled several important phases of his public life, including the implementation of the Bru settlement and the continuing efforts surrounding the Tiprasa Accord.

He also reflected on the formation and growth of TIPRA Motha, saying that the movement was created to bring together different groups working for the same cause. The principle of “One Platform, One Voice, One Thansa” became central to the movement, he said.
Pradyot credited the movement’s growth to the support of the people and highlighted the number of elected representatives associated with it, including Village Council leaders, MDCs and MLAs.
Focus on Tiprasa Accord
A major part of the letter focused on the Tiprasa Accord, which Pradyot described as being greater than any individual, political party or political position.
He said the Accord belongs to the people of Tripura and future generations and expressed hope that its commitments would be fulfilled within the stipulated timeframe.
Pradyot also acknowledged that the political journey had involved difficult negotiations, disagreements and disappointments. However, he said he did not want to leave behind bitterness and believed that the work for the people must continue.

While announcing his exit from active politics, Pradyot clarified that he was not turning away from Tripura or its people.
He said he would no longer hold political office or take part in day-to-day political activities, but would remain available whenever his experience, advice or assistance could be useful.
He also expressed gratitude to the people who stood beside him during difficult periods and said he was leaving active politics with gratitude rather than anger.
Pradyot said that years of travel, public responsibilities, negotiations and continuous political struggle had affected his health, peace of mind and family life. He now wants to spend more time with his family, take care of his health and enter a quieter phase of life.
Ending his message, Pradyot expressed hope for a more united, confident and just Tripura, where indigenous people live with dignity and the aspirations of future generations are protected.
