Gujarat Cracks Down on Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants; Over 1,000 Detained in Ahmedabad and Surat

Ahmedabad, Gujarat – In what is being described as the state’s biggest-ever crackdown on illegal immigration, the Gujarat government has detained over 1,000 suspected Bangladeshi nationals in Ahmedabad and Surat in a single night, officials confirmed. The large-scale operation, conducted jointly by police and intelligence units, led to the detention of 890 individuals in Ahmedabad and 134 in Surat. These detentions are part of an ongoing state-wide effort that has seen nearly 6,500 undocumented individuals taken into custody so far.

According to Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay, the detainees are currently being questioned, and both documentary and technological evidence are being gathered to verify their nationality. Only after confirmation of their Bangladeshi identity will deportation procedures begin. “This is part of a larger campaign to identify and remove foreign nationals illegally residing in the state,” Sahay stated.

The massive operation highlights increasing concerns over illegal immigration and its potential impact on local resources and security. The state government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order while following due legal processes. Further investigations are underway, and authorities have not ruled out more detentions in the coming days as the verification process continues.
