Karbook YTF Intervenes as Miscreants Stall Tirthamuk Rest House Construction Funded by Tribal Welfare Dept

Tirthamuk, Karbook Subdivision – Construction of a new rest house in Tirthamuk, a project initiated by the Tripura Tribal Welfare Department through TTAADC, was recently halted following threats and extortion attempts by unknown individuals. The miscreants allegedly demanded money or an immediate cessation of the construction activities, according to a complaint.

The rest house, a key infrastructure project, is aimed at improving facilities for tribal communities and visitors during the historic Dumbur Mela—one of the most significant cultural and religious gatherings in Tripura. Each year, thousands of people from various parts of the state and beyond converge at the Tirthamuk site during the Mela, underlining the critical need for proper accommodation and amenities.

Sources revealed that construction had been temporarily suspended due to fear and uncertainty stemming from the threats. However, on Saturday, members of the Karbook Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) visited the site to assess the situation and extend their support to the construction team. The youth body firmly requested that work resume immediately and assured cooperation for the project’s safe and uninterrupted execution.

YTF leaders emphasized the importance of the rest house for both local communities and visitors, stating, “The development of our tribal areas must not be hindered by fear. This rest house is not just a building; it's a step forward in preserving the dignity and rights of our people during sacred events like the Dumbur Mela.”
