Tensions Escalate in South Asia: Karbook SDM Leads Emergency Civil Defence Preparedness

Karbook, Tripura | May 15, 2025 – Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, with potential ripple effects in neighboring Bangladesh, the Government of India has initiated emergency preparedness measures across sensitive regions. In Karbook, the local administration has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of its citizens.

A crucial Civil Defence Protocol and Emergency Response meeting was held today at the Karbook SDM Conference Hall, led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Shyamjoy Jamatia. The meeting focused on preventive and responsive strategies in the event of a cross-border emergency, particularly scenarios involving air raid sirens or military threats.

Instructions Issued for Civil Safety

During the meeting, SDM Shyamjoy Jamatia provided clear instructions to the public in case government sirens are activated:

  • Immediately cover your ears to protect against shockwaves or loud impact sounds.

  • Lie down flat on the ground to reduce exposure.

  • If possible, take shelter in natural or man-made ditches, such as drains or soil depressions.

He emphasized the importance of remaining calm but alert, and to follow all official guidelines strictly.

Ration Dealers and Shopkeepers Alerted

The SDM also addressed all local ration dealers and shopkeepers, advising them to stock essential food items to ensure availability in case of supply chain disruptions. This step is aimed at preventing panic-buying and ensuring basic needs are met for all residents.

All Departments on High Alert

The emergency preparedness meeting saw the presence of representatives from all line departments, including the Border Security Force (BSF 114 BN and 169 BN), which maintains close vigil along the sensitive Indo-Bangladesh border. Their involvement signifies the seriousness of the situation and the need for a coordinated response.

Public Urged to Stay Informed and Prepared

Citizens are urged to remain informed through official channels and not to fall for rumors or misinformation. While no immediate threat has been reported in Tripura, the administration is leaving no stone unturned in preparing for all possibilities.

This move highlights the government's commitment to civilian safety and underscores the importance of community awareness and resilience during uncertain geopolitical situations.
