Witness Attacked After Testifying in Domestic Violence Case; Accused Arrested in Teliamura

 

Teliamura | A shocking case of retaliation against a witness has surfaced in Tripura’s Golarbari area under the Teliamura Police Station, where a woman’s house was allegedly attacked after she gave testimony in a court case involving domestic violence.

According to reports, a long-standing conflict between Samrat Ghosh and his wife—ongoing for nearly one and a half years—has recently reached the Khowai court. On the previous day, Putul Ghosh, a key witness in the case, provided testimony before the court.

Soon after, unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked her house in Golarbari in her absence. Her ailing husband, who was home at the time, was reportedly assaulted during the incident. The attack appears to be directly linked to her testimony, raising serious concerns over the safety of witnesses in domestic violence cases.

Following a formal complaint, the Teliamura Police registered a specific case and took swift action by arresting the accused, Samrat Ghosh.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and concern in the local community, highlighting the risks faced by citizens who cooperate with the judicial process. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring witness protection and upholding justice.
