Tripura Government Constitutes Special Task Force to Detect and Deport Illegal Immigrants

In a significant move to address the growing concerns over illegal immigration, the Tripura State Government has issued an official order to constitute a District-Level Special Task Force (STF) for West Tripura District. The STF has been formed in accordance with central government directives to detect, identify, and deport illegal immigrants, specifically Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas, residing unlawfully in the region.

The order number 11917-21/SP(RSV)/WD/SS/2025 was signed and issued by Dr. Kiran Kumar K, IPS, Superintendent of Police, West Tripura on 15 October 2025

The STF will be responsible for identifying individuals residing illegally in the district. Upon identification, team members are instructed to immediately collect biometric data, including fingerprints and facial photographs, and upload them to the Foreigners Identification Portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs:

Once the biometric and demographic information is recorded, the illegal immigrants will be handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for deportation back to their respective countries.

Reporting and Monitoring

The DySP DIB has been designated to compile weekly, fortnightly, and monthly reports based on ongoing activities of the STF. These reports will serve as a critical reference for both district and state-level immigration control operations.

A Step Amid Growing Concerns

This move follows months of public concern over demographic imbalance and rising infiltration in the bordering districts of Tripura. Civil society groups, opposition leaders, and indigenous rights activists have long demanded strong action and transparency in the fight against illegal immigration.

While this STF formation is a significant step forward, many question whether such district-level task forces across all eight districts of Tripura will be activated and monitored with equal seriousness.
