Agartala, August 1, 2025 – In a landmark decision aimed at recognizing and honoring the contributions of tribal community leaders, the Tripura state cabinet has approved a significant increase in the monthly honorarium for Samajpatis (traditional elders or community heads) of the indigenous communities.
As per the cabinet decision, the monthly honorarium has been raised from ₹2,000 to ₹5,000. This threefold increase is being hailed as a historic and respectful gesture towards the tribal society by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

The move is part of the BJP-led government’s broader commitment to the socio-economic upliftment of Tripura’s indigenous communities. Samajpatis hold vital roles in maintaining social order, preserving tribal customs, resolving local disputes, and fostering unity within their communities. Recognizing their influence and significance, the government has decided to offer enhanced financial support as a mark of respect and appreciation.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that the welfare and empowerment of tribal communities remain a top priority for his administration. He reiterated that his government is working relentlessly to promote inclusive development, protect cultural identity, and ensure that the tribal population receives their due recognition and support.
The decision has been welcomed by tribal organizations and community leaders across the state, who see this as a meaningful step towards strengthening traditional institutions and acknowledging their contribution to society.
