Agartala, August 28, 2026: The Young Tripuri Association (YTA) has submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities at Agartala Railway Station, demanding the inclusion of Kokborok-language announcements at railway stations wherever public announcements are made.

Speaking at a press briefing, YTA Organising Secretary Supra Debbarma said the demand is aimed at ensuring greater linguistic inclusion and making railway services more accessible to Kokborok-speaking passengers.
According to the organisation, Kokborok holds an important place in the identity, heritage and cultural life of the indigenous people of Tripura. YTA argued that using Kokborok for railway announcements would help passengers understand important information more easily while also recognising the state's indigenous linguistic identity.
The organisation stressed that public services should be accessible to people from all sections of society and said the introduction of Kokborok announcements would represent an important step towards linguistic equality.
YTA has urged the railway authorities to consider the demand positively and take appropriate measures to introduce Kokborok announcements at railway stations where public announcements are made.
The organisation expressed hope that the authorities would respond to the memorandum in the broader interest of passengers and the preservation and promotion of the Kokborok language.
