Alleged Extortion Syndicate Targeting Microfinance Firm Uncovered in Agartala

According to formal petitions lodged with the East Agartala Police Station and the West Tripura Superintendent of Police, two individuals—identified as Tomal Sinha Roy and Biki Dhanuka—contacted an employee named Bodhisatta Roy on September 20 under the guise of news reporters. Over subsequent meetings in Agartala, including locations near Kalyani Water Supply and Women’s College, the duo reportedly demanded a sum of ₹5,00,000 and coercively seized a signed blank cheque of ₹3,00,000.

The complainant further alleged that after the cheque bounced upon presentation, the accused circulated defamatory reports on social media platforms such as "Tripura Opinion" and "Muddakhata" to pressurize the organization further. Authorities have been requested to inspect CCTV footage, obtain phone records, and register an FIR under appropriate clauses of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
