Bangladeshi Retired General Advocates Occupation of India's Northeast Amid Rising Tensions

Bangladesh Northeast India: In a provocative development, retired Bangladeshi Major General A.L.M. Fazlur Rahman, currently serving as the head of the BDR Commission under the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus, has suggested that Bangladesh should occupy India's seven northeastern states if India attacks Pakistan. Rahman made this statement in a Facebook post, proposing discussions on a joint military system with China.Instagram+4Defence Forum Bharat+4Instagram+4

This assertion comes amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The Border Security Force (BSF) has heightened security along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, with troops on high alert and 24 checkpoints jointly manned by BSF and state police.India

The Indian government has expressed strong disapproval of Rahman's remarks, viewing them as a serious threat to regional stability. Diplomatic channels are being utilized to address the situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and respecting international boundaries.

Analysts warn that such statements could strain India-Bangladesh relations and potentially destabilize the region. The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to take necessary measures to safeguard its territorial integrity.

The international community is urged to take note of these developments and support efforts to de-escalate tensions in South Asia.
