Ambassa, Tripura – August 2, 2025:
In line with the Central and State Governments’ commitment to empower the youth financially, various livelihood schemes are being introduced across Tripura, showing encouraging results. One such inspiring success story has emerged from Kulai Sudhanshu Ghosh Para, under the Ambassa Subdivision, where a young man named Bittu Dey has become self-reliant through ornamental fish farming.
With financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Bittu started his ornamental fish hatchery in 2022. This year, he began commercial sales and has already received a remarkable response from buyers across the state. Notably, his is the only ornamental fish hatchery in the Dhalai district.

Bittu has set up the hatchery at his own residence and now breeds 12 to 15 varieties of ornamental fish, including Full Red Guppy, Full Black Guppy, Mixed Guppy, Albino Red Dragon Guppy, and more. His efforts have not only made him financially stable but also drawn the attention of fish enthusiasts from across Tripura.
In an interview, Gouranga Chandra Sarkar, Deputy Director of the Dhalai District Fisheries Department, stated that the government is undertaking multiple initiatives to make youth self-reliant, and ornamental fish farming offers significant potential in this regard. That is why the department has actively supported such ventures.
Speaking to the media, Bittu Dey expressed satisfaction, saying, “Through the income from selling these fish, my family is now doing well. People from different parts of the state are visiting and purchasing their preferred fish. The response has been overwhelming right from the first sale.”
This success story sets an example for other unemployed youth in Tripura to explore innovative and sustainable livelihood options supported by government schemes.
