He emphasized the importance of remaining calm but alert, and to follow all official guidelines strictly.

YTA Remembering Shib Sadhan Jamatia: The Silent Force Behind a Tipraland & Greater Tipraland Movement

Today marks the 3rd death anniversary of Shib Sadhan Jamatia, former President of the YTA Teliamura unit. A solemn program was held at his gravesite, where community members gathered to pay tribute to his memory and legacy.
YTA
YTA

Many may not be aware of the Young Tripuri Association (YTA), a grassroots organization inspired by Mizoram's influential Young Mizo Association (YMA). While the YMA is a powerful and well-known body in Mizoram, the YTA has worked more quietly—but no less significantly—within Tripura.

YTA has played a crucial role in shaping recent political movements, especially the calls for Tipraland and Greater Tipraland. Although operating behind the scenes, YTA’s support was instrumental in reviving the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), which had lost its political relevance after the year 2000. With YTA’s backing, IPFT regained momentum by championing the Tipraland demand. However, once the party grew stronger, it distanced itself from YTA and aligned with the BJP—much to the disappointment of its early supporters.

A similar pattern is now being seen with Tipra Motha, which has taken up the mantle of Greater Tipraland. Many intellectuals recognize this shift, but choose to remain silent, having transitioned from being nobodies to holding significant positions of influence.

In Mizoram, the YMA is devoted to the Mizo nation, working tirelessly for the welfare of the people. In Tripura, however, many fear that the dedication of the Tripuri people may be increasingly diverted toward politics. What this means for the future of the community remains uncertain—only time will tell.

Today, at Nagerjala Bus Stand in Agartala, I had a conversation with a girl from Karbook. She had been studying Kokborok Honours for a year at Agartala Women’s College. I came to know that she was returning home with all her belongings. I asked her why she was leaving.

She replied, “Grandfather, my parents are not financially capable of supporting my studies anymore.” She then added, “I heard that a college will be opening in Karbook this year. If it does, I will continue my education there.”

Her words touched me deeply. After a while, I watched the video again and felt a renewed sense of hope. I told her, “Your fortune has changed — you’ll now be able to study in Karbook.”

Because of your collective efforts, many children from poor families will be saved from giving up their education. This is truly one of the most meaningful contributions to society. It’s a great achievement.

Massive Irregularities Alleged in Multi-Crore National Highway Project in Tripura

Serious allegations of large-scale irregularities have surfaced in the construction of the 11-kilometer stretch of the National Highway from Churaibari Seltex Gate to Shanishchara in Tripura. Locals claim that the work is being carried out with extremely poor quality, blatantly violating government guidelines, and under the supervision of side managers instead of qualified engineers.

Out of the total project, contractor Deepak Kar was allotted a 3 km stretch near Churaibari. In a rush to complete the work, he allegedly compromised on quality, resulting in severe road damage within just a month. Pitch and stones have started peeling off due to weak binding, raising questions about the durability of such a vital roadway, which witnesses heavy vehicular traffic daily.

From the end of this 3 km stretch, contractor Raju Debnath of Minamati Enterprise was assigned a further 4 km near Shanishchara Forest Beat Office. His work too has drawn criticism for being substandard. Villagers from Chanpur allege the absence of crucial components like cross-lines, which help hold the pitch and stones in place. As a result, the newly laid road is already deteriorating.

Moreover, there is a lack of standardized measurement in laying the pitch—some areas have just half an inch, while others exceed one and a half inches. Locals also allege that construction is ongoing without proper measurement tools and without cleaning dust and debris using machinery, as required.

Regular presence of government engineers is also missing, and side manager Pramod Bhowmik, meant to oversee workers, is allegedly functioning as an engineer—raising further concerns.

Earlier, this stretch had turned into a death trap, prompting MP Biplab Kumar Deb to secure a multi-crore budget in Parliament for its repair. Despite crores being sanctioned for each kilometer, the quality of work remains far below expectations.

As monsoon approaches, residents fear the deteriorating road could become even more dangerous. Villagers demand urgent action from district administration and the local MLA to ensure accountability and safety on this critical stretch of highway.
